Turkeys on the Run

      One of my morning walks begins at a boat landing on a creek which leads out to the Ohio River.  The van is parked at the landing and I walk up the road away from it to a regular path near the river.   This road is usually deserted except for a few very modest homes on the river side.  The area is a mix of woodland and brush and sometimes you can  see turkeys.  Today the drive to the landing followed five of them.  I expected them to cross the road as they have done before --but no, they just ran away straight down the middle of road, toward the landing, looking quite silly! They continued down the road, the van slowly following.  I kept expecting them to veer left or right and cross the road so I delayed taking a picture, thinking they would leave the road as soon as I got my phone out.  Of course by the time I finally decided to get it out  they crossed the road into the brush, distracted by the crazy barking of the...

Today's Miracle

        Morning walks are part of my life, and today I ventured out for one along the Ohio River on a very warm and muggy overcast day.  My aging body felt  heavy, partly because I didn't get enough sleep the night before.  I absolutely did not want to be out walking; I knew it would be a purely "I did it out of duty" walk, dragging and pushing myself all the way. I could not pull myself out of my grumpy mood.       About a week ago I was on a walk in similar conditions and was quickly uplifted by a series of Indigo Bunting appearances.  These birds are my favorite, and I was blessed with some photos of two--  a miracle because it's rare to see them close enough to photograph with my phone.  Those birds pulled me right out of the weather doldrums  into a happy mood.  But I had no such experience this morning.       I finally felt relief when I saw our van.  Oh, just to sit!  For some...
